Five News Sources

X (The site formerly known as Twitter)

Starting off strong with a simple social media site, we have X. While the rebrand was, personally, a poor decision, it is still functions as my primary source for news. I hear the masses cry "but what of reliability!" or "but anyone can post on that!" and actually, that second reason is why I use it. Sure, the sources don't have to be vetted, but if enough people are posting about it to get it on the front page then its likely to be worth looking into. It's my source that lets me know I should find other sources. It gathers my headlines for me to then look into further.

As an additional note, and a good preface to make as we go forward, most of my news consists of games, TV, and movies. That is to say I focus largely on the entertainment side of the world. For example, my current Twitter (or X) feed is a lot about the writing and acting strike or news on games I play. The succeeding news sources referenced should make that clear.

Forbes (Mainly: Paul Tassi

While most know Forbes for being a business or tech magazine, I know it through Paul Tassi. Paul is a Forbes journalist that specializes in (what else) the entertainment industry. An avid and passionate gamer and critique, he is (to me) one of the few gaming journalists out there that still has respect for both the games he reviews and the articles he writes. Better yet, it seems we share a similar taste in other media (TV and movies) as well, meaning I can usually trust that if he likes something, I will to.

I originally found Paul through the game "Destiny". He reported on it heavily, and as a player I found myself coming to him for news. As Destiny grew, Paul kept up with it. Now, a decade into the world of Destiny, we are both still playing and I still go to him for news and opinions on the state of the game.

YouTube (Paul Tassi exists here as well)

YouTube is much more heavily my gaming news site after Paul and Forbes. I don't ever really go to YouTube for world or entertainment industry news. Occasionally to see a review on a movie or show, but it's mostly for gaming (I'm sure you see a pattern here). Although, that being said, I do often look to YouTube for any movie announcements or trailer drops which is a type of news.

As mentioned previously, I tend towards Paul Tassi on this site, but also Dead Meat for horror news and reviews, Scott Jund for a game called Dead by Daylight, and Otzdarva (and his alternate account not Otzdarva) for Dead by Daylight as well. Any resulting channel I follow is less for news and more for entertainment value.

Reddit (Less and less)

I come to Reddit, like the other sources, often for gaming news. However, there is also a popular section usually with world news littered throughout. Additionally I follow a lot of TTRPG (table-top role-playing games) news and developments on here (and yes I know I'm making myself out to be a nerd).

The reason I opt out of Reddit more often now, though, is due to the "doom scroll". Where on Twitter the news I find is usually just headlines and some opinions, Reddit seems to give me sensationalized headlines and opinions masquerading as truth. As a result I end up leaving Reddit feeling anxious and uninformed. Still though, I use it and get news from it more than I do whatever I put next which is why it's up here. Judge me as you wish.

BBC News (The second actual news company on this list)

Fortunately enough for people's sanity I at least had Forbes at number two, but I do feel a little embarrassed by the lack of actual news sources here. Alas, c'est la vie. This is really the only place I go for world news and politics which is unfortunately why it's so low. As most people these days, I don't opt into the news willingly. It just happens upon me, and I become disillusioned with by my current perception.
BBC works for me since, while it seems impossible to find an actually unbiased source of news these days, they don't go as overboard as some local news sources. Perhaps that's the distance they have, given it is a British Broadcasting Company (hence the BBC), or maybe they just understand journalism better over there, but either way it's nice not having everything sensationalized.

The Supreme Court

What did I learn? I didn't know that the court specifically had to deem things either constitutional or unconstitutional. In their ruli...
